From anime to a live-action movie.
- Variety reports that Ronny (FREDDY VS. JASON) Yu will direct a live-action version of BLOOD: THE LAST VAMPIRE, based on the popular anime movie directed by Hiroyuko Kitakubo in 2000. The original story centers on Saya, a young ghoul slayer in post-WWII Japan who is a vampire herself, and discovers that two of her classmates are bloodsuckers. The new feature, which will be filmed in a mix of English and other languages, is being produced by Bill Kong, whose credits include such martial-arts hits as HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS, HERO and CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON. Location scouting is currently underway in Japan, Russia and the Philippines. Yu most recently helmed the Jet Li actioner FEARLESS, already a hit in China and set for U.S. release via Rogue Pictures in August.
